SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key ( encrypted key ) to an organization’s details.

It Ensure secure connection between web browser and the server.

If you sell products or services on your website and accept credit cards online, you need an SSL Certificate for website security.

So later the connection between the user’s browser to the server will be through secure protocol (https) and is marked by the green lock in the browser address bar ensuring secure connection.

Most free and common SSL certificate can given by 1. Let's Encrypt (best one) 2. Cloudflare Universal SSL 3. StartSSL Free 4. SSL.com

and some others also.

Hope this little information will help you to get started with Let's Encrypt
