Hey, it’s Sarthak from Bitfumes! Welcome to the 3rd edition of our Newsletter πŸš€

A huge thanks for being here with us ✨

Hi there πŸ‘‹

India came so very close to lifting the World Cup, OpenAI fired its CEO, and Microsoft finally hit the nail on the head for building the future... aaand a Black Friday surprise just for you! (Read on to know πŸ˜‰)

Phew! What an eventful week and weekend it has been.

From sitting on the edge of the seat, egging our fierce cricketers to score more, and then checking the drama over at OpenAI in between overs, to finally watching Australia beat us to the cup (πŸ˜”), the last few days were definitely a roller coaster ride.

But before we talk more about the happenings in the world outside, let's continue just a bit more about my journey with Bitfumes 😁

Bitfumes - The Journey

In my previous newsletter, I spoke about the inception of Bitfumes and how the YouTube channel came to be, and why I started doing it.

I confessed last time that when Bitfumes was registered, I had zero knowledge about programming 🀫

Over the years, Bitfumes has definitely grown with tens of hundreds of videos and tutorials and courses on JavaScript, Laravel, NodeJS, etc.

Time for my 2nd confession - I still don't know PHP! Yes πŸ₯² and there's a reason for it. While I did learn PHP initially before jumping over to the Laravel framework, over the years, Laravel has made it just so easy for me to build cool stuff without ever having to worry about PHP.

Yes the basic scripts and configurations are definitely still written in PHP, but if you ask me to build a β€œvanilla PHP” app, then it just won’t happen. Well, not that it CANNOT happen, it definitely is possible, but it would render the point of using Laravel moot.

Laravel was built with the sole purpose of supercharging PHP development so developers need not worry about syntax, conventions, adjustments, etc in PHP. Laravel provides all the bells, whistles, and batteries to boost the performance of apps 😎

PHP has stood the test of time, and frameworks built on top of it will continue to do so with more and more open-source contributors keeping the ecosystem vibrant and thriving.

And on that note - here's our biggest giveaway of the year πŸš€

Silicon Valley Drama

The ex-CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman is in the news and how! Reading the shocking revelations over the last couple of days have been a mix of shock, surprise, entertainment, disbelief, and finally wonder.

And it was not that straightforward either. Here's a quick summary of what happened -

  1. OpenAI board of directors fired Sam Altman as CEO.
  2. The board name Mira Maruti as interim CEO
  3. Greg Brockman, president of OpenAI resigned after hearing the Sam was fired.
  4. All of this went viral and OpenAI started realising the huge blunder they had made.
  5. The rest of the tech team at OpenAI also expressed their willingness to resign and walk away.
  6. Meanwhile, Satya Nadella at Microsoft showed diplomacy by saying that they (and their investment $12 billion investment in OpenAI) would continue to work and contribute to the world of AI.
  7. Internally, Microsoft along with the rest of the world, were already obviously furious about all these events.
  8. Trying to frantically cover up the mistakes the next day, OpenAI asked Sam Altman to consider coming back (lol). This was the beginning of the end of discussions between Sam and OpenAI.
  9. Finally, in a show of absolute decisiveness, Microsoft swooped in and hired Sam Altman and the rest of the technology team to work at their dedicated advanced AI research wing with no hindrances and complete support and autonomy.

This absolutely entertaining turn of events has left me wondering how Microsoft will now enable the future of AI and computer research with such a fantastic team at its very own offices.
